New Exhibit Exploring Significance of Objects Designed to Disappear

There’s a new exhibit exploring the beauty and significance of objects designed to disappear.

Dubbed Ephemera, this exhibit challenges visitors to reconsider the value of everyday objects which would be used once then thrown away.

Items usually disposed of can be found in museums across the world such as yellow newspapers and historical product packaging, baseball cards, ticket stubs, handwritten diaries and more.

Assistant Curator Lindsay Woelfle says the display includes many things some would even think about keeping right up to examples of only a few years ago.

“Included things like taxidermy, its something where you wouldn’t think to keep the bird in your yard but Victorians were huge about taxidermy and then I wanted modern examples and went with things like COVID. During that time our lives were full of ephemera, face masks, shields, gowns, testing kits they are all examples of ephemera.” said Woelfle.

Ephemera is open now and will remain on display through 2026 offering plenty of time to explore the transient treasurers.
