Wellington County OPP continue to warn residents of fraud after a recent attempted car purchase scam.
On January 13th police were contacted about the fraud in Rockwood when a victim listed their vehicle online.
The suspect made arrangements with the potential victim who arrived at their home with three other individuals.
Shortly into a test drive, the vehicle began billowing black smoke which threw off the owner.
The suspect then offered much less than what was listed for the vehicle which was declined.
After an inspection it was found the vehicle was intentionally tampered with.
OPP are urging residents to be vigilant when selling vehicles privately as fraudsters will attempt to sabotage them in an effort to greatly reduce the price.
