In a landslide victory, Mark Carney has become the next leader of the federal Liberal party and will become the next Prime Minister of Canada.
Carney won with 85.9 per cent of the vote which was put forward after Justin Trudeau’s resignation.
The former Bank of Canada and Bank of England governor will become the 24th Prime Minister in the coming days though no date has yet been set.
Carney during his speech took time to go after US President Donald Trump and his imposed tariffs.
“Unjustified tariffs on what we build, what we sell on how we make a living. He’s attacking Canadian families, workers and businesses and we cannot let him succeed.” said Carney
While the next federal election isn’t expected until October 20th an early campaign call could likely be called much sooner.
