Mapleton is giving some thoughts on allowing Sunday Gun Hunting.
Ray Kuper spoke with council on Tuesday about allowing the use of gun hunting on Sundays.
Kuper spoke to council saying many hunters don’t have time off to hunt being limited to just Saturday but opening up an extra day would move mountains for those hunters.
Kuper added hunting is considered one of the safest sports, only counting for 0.001% of all sporting accidents in Canada.
Councilor Marlene Otten says her stance on the issue has changed, being in support of the move.
“The more you talk to people the more you learn about it and the more you understand. As you said you only get one weekend a year to do that and if you want to put a deer in the freezer, it adds if you work all week you could get two days instead of one to do that.” said Otten.
If council were to give the green light for Sunday Gun Hunting they would join Minto who approved a similar move earlier this year.
For now council has directed staff to get a bylaw brought up to allow Sunday Gun Hunting and return at a future council meeting.
