Local Officer Awarded Laurie Hawkins Community Service Award

The Ontario Provincial Police West Region issued a Congratulations yesterday to Constables Cheri Rockefeller of the Wellington OPP, Kevin Martin of the South Bruce OPP and Rod Leclair of the Haldimand OPP for being named recipients of the Laurie Hawkins Community Services Memorial Award.

It is given to community/service or media relations officers for exemplary work in their communities.

The award is named after OPP Constable Laurie Hawkins and her family, who died of carbon monoxide poisoning in 2008.

The Hawkins Gignac Act was named in the family’s honour in an effort to help prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
