This was the case in the Village of Corbett on October 1st when Jake Johnson, a resident of Huron County, noticed smoke coming from a wooded area.
Johnson attempted to put out a car that was on fire but didn’t realize a person was inside.
When he did he made the split second decision that likely saved her life. He poured sand from his truck directly onto the engine compartment. The woman was then transported to hospital via air ambulance.
Local South Huron Mayor George Finch and Fire Officials have given Jake a commendation for his bravery.
They are hoping the other good samaritan will step forward to be recognized as well.
Local fire officials would like to remind all drivers to keep a working fire extinguisher in their vehicles at all times.
