A committee will be formed as Listowel marks its 150th anniversary in 2025.
While getting a green light from council its still expected the municipality is taking a limited approach for involvement on getting a citizen run volunteer group.
In 2022 Monkton held its 165th homecoming which was run by volunteers and getting support from service clubs.
Council did not waive a tent permit fee for the Monkton homecoming when organizers approached council about the proposal.
Jessica McLean, Manager of Strategic Initiatives says at this stage there are ways the municipality can support the anniversary without needing to dish out any finances.
“Prepare some advertisements to create more awareness of Listowel’s upcoming anniversary and promote the opportunity for volunteers to come together and consider plans for a celebration in 2025” said McLean.
Councilor Lee Anne Andriessen says homecoming events such as this typically come with a heavy cost for a committee to put up who expressed some empathy.
