Last minute change allows possibility of Splash Pads to reopen in Ontario

The Ontario government has issued a last minute change to reopening restrictions allowing splash pads to open for the long weekend. This moves up the reopening for that amenity as it hadn’t been expected until Stage 1 in mid-June.

The move comes after Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson took to Twitter calling on Premier Ford to reconsider the decision in light of scorching temperatures expected across Southern Ontario this weekend.

By late this afternoon a spokesperson for Minister of Health Christine Elliott confirmed that splash pads will in fact be allowed to open as of 12:01 tomorrow morning alongside other outdoor amenities.

The ability for the Regions in our area (North Perth, Wellington County, etc.) to open their Splash Pads varies by area. Please check your area’s Municipal website for their timeline to reopen splash pads.

Township of Mapleton has indicated they are having Ministry of the Environment out prior to them re-opening in that area.

Outdoor pools and wading pools remain closed and aren’t expected to reopen until Stage 1.
