Huron County Decline Wingham Armouries Purchase – Will Proceed with Demolition

North Huron council has declined an offer to purchase the Wingham Armouries building and instead directed staff to go forward with demolition.

Kieswetter Demolition was the successful bidder at $94,258.60 and were awarded $17,940 for the paving work which will be done once the demolition is complete. Extra funds from the paving work is being taken from Public Works reserve funds, which council will make adjustments needed as part of their 2021 budget.

Clerk Carson Lamb has been directed to prepare a bylaw and an agreement to officially award the work to Kieswetter Demolition for their council meeting on April 6th.

In regards to North Huron council, a plan has been made for a hopeful return to in person meetings. The plan, so long as Huron County can remain in either the “green” “yellow” or “orange” zones on the COVID-19 framework. In-person council meetings could return as early as April 1st, but any change to the framework will quickly reverse the decision.

Huron-Perth remains in the “yellow” on the COVID-19 protection framework, any changes would be announced on Friday.
