Huron Chamber Looking at Tariff Impact on Local Businesses

The Huron Chamber of Commerce has put a report looking at how US tariffs are impacting businesses in Huron County.

The survey found that exposure to the new tariffs could extend well beyond businesses which export directly to the United States with 47 per cent of respondents exporting goods to the US while 65 per cent purchasing American goods, materials or components.

The same proportion believe their customers may be affected by tariffs.

Colin Carmichael, Executive Director of the Chamber says a tariff may begin with a manufacturer, an importer or exporter but if it changes investment decisions, employment the effects can eventually reach retailers, restaurants, contractors, real estate, businesses and other employers through Huron County.
