Canada has approved the use of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in the country.
Officials say the vaccine could arrive in Canada within the next 48 hours and is already set to receive 168,000 doses by the end of the month. Moderna’s vaccine has shown a 94.1 percent effectiveness in protecting people from COVID-19 requiring two doses 28 days apart.
Unlike Pfizers vaccine which requires to be kept in strict below freezing temperatures, Modernas vaccine can last in a standard freezer which means the delivery will be prioritized in high risk areas farther away such as the territories and remote indigenous communities.
