Harriston to Have Rainbow Pedestrian Crosswalk

The Town of Minto will join various communities across Wellington County by painting a rainbow pedestrian crosswalk in Harriston.

The intersection of Elora Street South and Young Street is aimed to where the crosswalk would be painted according to Mike McIsaac, the town’s roads and drainage manager.

Sam Greer, from Minto Pride says its great to have the support from council and to look at expanding to have a rainbow crosswalk to the rest of Minto.

“We were able to lock in the one in Harriston but we’re hopeful to be able to raise the funds and get the support from council moving forward so we can have one of these crosswalks in Palmerston and Clifford.” said Greer.

Greer says Mayor George Bridge has been a strong supporter.

“He is incredibly inclusive and supportive. He put up the funds for a separate flagpole so we could have things like the rainbow flag hung during the month of June. Hang things for Black History Month. He donated that flagpole himself.”

Those who wish to donate and show support for Minto Pride can donate to MintoPrideCommittee@gmail.com.

Donations will help go towards future events and projects such as potential future crosswalks and Pride in the Park.
