Fire Prevention Week – Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety

It’s Fire Prevention Week taking on this year’s theme of Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety.

Fire Departments everywhere are getting involved to ensure residents know and continue to practice fire safety.

Fire Chief with the Howick Fire Department Shawn Edwards says it’s important to know the sounds of your smoke detector or carbon monoxide alarm.

“A little chirp from your smoke alarm needs it maintenance. It could need a new battery and it can also mean its the end of life and its time to replace them. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms need to be replaced every 10 years.” said Edwards
