Fergus Residents Rally to Save 100 Year Old Maple Tree

Residents on St George Street in Fergus are rallying to try and save a 100 year old maple tree in the township.

The township says the tree must come down as sanitary sewer replacement is set to take place on the street next month and the roots will be damaged by the work and interfere with the new infrastructure.

The township says its safer to remove the tree rather than try to work around it. However many residents would prefer to not see the 100 year old tree be cut down.

Residents and kids have hung messages of support to not have the tree be taken down, messages beside the notice from the township which says the tree will come down.

A resident who has been collecting signatures to change the townships mind has already collected 100 signatures.
