Elora Gearing Up for Food Day in Canada

While soon to be celebrated in Elora for 20 years, this will mark the first Food Day in Canada where its celebrated across the country.

Over the course of the August Civic Holiday, Canadians are encouraged to eat Canadian beef to celebrate the industry following the 1st celebration marked by Elora resident Anita Stewart.

The Food Day in Canada Act passed by both the House of Commons and Senate earlier this year and as Perth-Wellington MP John Nater says Food Day in Canada is all about celebrating the rich heritage of local cuisine.

“What was originally a great event in support of Canadian Beef Farmers and promote locally grown food has now turned into an annual event that celebrates the rich heritage and proud traditions of our Canadian cuisine.” said Nater.

This years Food Day in Canada is set on August 5th and celebrated by restaurants, farmers and growers across the country.

In Elora, August 1st will be “Party on the Bridge” to kick off the event heading into the long weekend.
