Grocery stores are a staple of our society. They are the place we purchase all of our fresh produce, ingredients and staples that feed us day in and day out.
The fully thing though is they are also the place we seem to meet our friends and family members that live in our neighbourhood. They are an unintended gathering place where friendships are rekindled.
This idea of friendship is something that is being celebrated in Drayton. The Freshmart there is celebrating it’s 1 year anniversary since being taken over by Owner Mak and Mitul Patel. He has been humbled by the response since visiting the store just over a year ago.
“To be honest I am very overwhelmed from the response from the community from the very first day. The previous owner had given us an opportunity to meet so many people before we took over here. Since then with the support of my great, wonderful staff and the community we have been enjoying it for the year.”
The thing Mitul noticed during the pandemic is that people were finding a bit of safe socializing with who they met at the grocery store. He says it seemed to offer them a way to get out and meet one another while still following health guidelines.
“We as a grocery store we are the frontline workers but we have the opportunity for our customers to see their friends with a safe distance but they had an opportunity to see so many people and friends that they wouldn’t be able to meet.”
Supporting local causes are something the store likes to focus on. Mitul tells us more.
“We were fortunately to be part of the community. We help out the Kinettes Club and the Legion. Last week we had the Legion order and we gave back our portion to them as well.”
Happy 1 Year Anniversary Mak and Mitul Patel owners of the Drayton Freshmart.
