While speaking in Niagara, Premier Doug Ford has announced he is reversing his plan to open the protected Greenbelt lands for housing development saying there will be no changes to the Greenbelt in the future.
“It was a mistake to open the Greenbelt. It was a mistake to establish a process to move too fast. This process it left too much room for some people to benefit others, it left some people to question our motives” said Ford.
A report from the integrity commissioner and auditor general found the process to select lands for development was rushed and showed favoritism
Ford during his retreat heard from his caucus members about what they have been hearing from the public regarding the manner.
Ford apologized for breaking his promise on not touching the Greenbelt and how it was a mistake to open it up for housing development.
