The Canada Revenue Agency says it will be sending out notifications to residents about uncashed cheques to around 25,000 Canadians.
The CRA says it has around $1.4 billion worth of uncashed cheques which some dating back as far as 1998.
The CRA says every year millions of payments in the form of benefits and refunds go uncashed for different reasons such as misplacing cheques or changing addresses.
Canadians can also check to see if they have any uncashed payments by logging into their CRA account.
