Council Looking Over Property Tax Due Dates

Part of North Perth council discussion on Monday was that of a Property Tax due date review.

As part of the 2025 budget, council had directed staff to review the property tax due dates to see if changes were needed to better serve the needs of ratepayers.

The review was to assess if alternative due dates could be done to provide more convenience or financial relief to taxpayers without impacting municipal cash flow.

Councilor Dave Johnston who agreed with staff on not needing to make a change right away says any intimidate change for those on pre-authorized payments would be in for a shock.

“You wanna talk about rocking the boat? Some of these people who have paid on the last day of September for the last 60 years, if we now tell them it’s going to be in July they’re going to have a heart attack.” said Johnston.

Council at least for now isn’t making any immediate changes to the tax due date review.

The municipality is planning to replace its Enterprise Resource Planning software in a few years and with it can introduce expanded functionally, new bill formatting and more which could better support comprehensive billing changes.
