As the provincial election campaign continues, Community Living North Perth is calling on elected and hopeful elected officials to make sure supporting those with developmental disabilities in the community.
In a release, Community Living says since 1993, the provincial government has increased core funding to support agencies by less than 7 per cent while the cost of living has jumped 60 per cent.
Jennifer Croft, Executive Director for Community Living North Perth says the biggest issue for them locally is not having enough resources to support the needs.
“We have a number of families who are in crisis looking for a spot in that group living home but when a spot does open up there are 46 families trying for that one spot and so the wait for the residential support is about 20-30 years right now which is not responsive to the needs we are seeing.” said Croft.
Croft adds without action and investment, the crisis will continue to get worse and leave more people without the support they desperately need.
