Centre Wellington Warning Residents of Stormwater Ponds

Centre Wellington is warning residents of the dangers of stormwater ponds.

The ponds are not natural, recreational lakes but instead industrial used infrastructure which manages urban runoff.

The dangers around these ponds include the contaminants in them as they collect runoff from the streets and lawns and could contain heavy metals, bacteria and road salt.

Other hazards such as the rapid water level fluctuations as sudden rain or snow melt in the spring can cause the water levels to rise quickly and create strong currents and trap people or pets.

Everyone is asked to stay away from the ponds and bear in mind the various prohibitions around them.
