They say in the release that they have spent the last 2 years searching for a name that would fit the region with it’s rich lacrosse history.
They announced that the new brand will be Riverhawks changing from the name Mohawks.
The name was submitted by the community and it was one of the top submissions in popularity.
They say that as the nickname for the Osprey, the fierce bird is frequently found nesting around the Grand River.
