An incident north of Bayfield has resulted in two deaths, including a firefighter.
Huron County OPP alongside Huron County Paramedics and Bluewater Fire Services responded to a Marine Incident on June 10th north of Bayfield.
At around 2:20pm, emergency services responded to a beach front address for an incident involving a pleasure craft operator in distress.
When officers arrived, EMS and fire services were preforming life saving measures on an individual brought to shore with the 32 year old Bluewater resident pronounced deceased at the scene.
While assisting with the emergency, a 46 year old volunteer from Bluewater experienced a medical emergency and was taken to a hospital where they later pronounced deceased.
The causes of both deaths are still being determined.
The municipality issued a statement following the loss of the volunteer firefighter;
“Today we lost a hero. A Bluewater firefighter has passed away in the line of duty due to natural causes, while responding to a tragic marine event just north of Bayfield. The Municipality of Bluewater is grieving this loss alongside the family. We are respecting the family’s privacy, and will not be sharing more information at this time.”
