A small blue-green algae bloom has been spotted near the Conestogo Dam.

The Grand River Conservation Authority says this algae in the water can produce toxins and cause serious illness to people and be fatal for pets.

If you see any blue-green algae in the water which can look like spilled paint you’re asked to keep children and pets away, do not touch the algae, don’t swim in areas where you see scum and to not eat any fish you catch from the lake.
