Bell Canada is cutting nine per cent of its work force, close to around 4800 jobs across its Bell Media subsidiary.
With the removal of staff its also selling off 45 of its 103 regional radio stations.
This will affect stations across Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Atlantic Canada.
This announcement marks the second major layoff at Bell since last spring when six per cent of jobs were cut with nine radio stations either shuttered or sold.
Hearings are also scheduled next week by the CRTC as part of a review into the rates smaller internet competitors pay the major carrier to access their network.
