Huron-Perth Public Health says a bat which bit someone in Stratford has tested positive for rabies.
This is the first bat to test positive in the county this year.
The person who was bitten is getting rabies post exposure treatment to prevent the development of the infection.
Public health is reminding everyone to avoid exposure to bats and contact public health if you get exposed.
Inspector Patrick Landry says anyone who is bitten or scratched by a bat should wash the area immediately and get medical help.
