Auditor General says Developers Tied to Housing Minister Were Favoured

Ontario’s auditor general says the province’s decision to open up the Greenbelt for housing development had favoured developers with connections to the housing minister’s chief of staff.

Bonnie Lysyk says the government failed to look into the risks of environmental, agricultural and financial impacts in 2022 to remove some lands and adding others to the protected Greenbelt.

Premier Doug Ford and Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark have both denied tipping off developers ahead of an announcement last year the government would remove land of 15 different Greenbelt areas so that 50,000 homes could be built.
