The Police Services Board in Wellington County has approved a bylaw which will further punish those who make false alarm calls.
County staff as directed by the police services board has set the fines for a single at fault false alarm to $385.
This bylaw increase was passed last month by council and took effect this month.
The old policy had started at a $50 fine, increasing to $100 the second time and another $100 for every false alarm following.
Data from the board meeting showed in 2021 a total of 272 false alarms were seen, an increase from the 189 in 2020.
Last month alone, there were 19 false alarms.
