As Many as 12,000 Students Not Up to Date on Some Immunization

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has sent out as many as 12,000 letters to students in the area who are considered overdue for routine immunizations.

37 per cent of grade 9 students across Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph are overdue for hepatitis B and Meningitis vaccination with 39 per cent overdue for the HPV vaccine.

The cause of these delays has been a result of low attendance rates in schools due to closures caused by pandemic as the vaccines are typically done in school.

Officials say those who aren’t up to date on their vaccines are not being prevented from attending class.
