Annual Pace of Inflation Cools Slightly, Grocery Prices Remain High

The annual pace of inflation cooled slightly in February, posting the largest deceleration since April 2020.

Stats Canada says the consumer price index last month was up 5.2 per cent when compared to numbers a year ago.

The decline was mainly due to a steep monthly increase in prices in February 2022.

While the overall cooling was seen, grocery prices still remain at its highest and outpaced overall inflation.

Prices for food in stores for February was up 10.6 per cent when compared to the same time last year and the 7th consecutive month of double digit increases.
