Wellington County OPP continue to warn the public after someone lost $50,000 in a romance scam.
On September 25th at around 11am, OPP received a report of fraud from a resident of Guelph-Eramosa.
It was reported the victim developed an online relationship with an unidentified individual from another country and the victim sent a large quantity of money, leading to them losing $50,000.
A family member quickly recognized the situation and intervened and contacted police. OPP say to always be suspicious around fake identities, financial requests from such accounts and a reluctance to meet in person.
