Around $152,000 in non COVID-19 vaccines was put to waste by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health last year.
A report from the health unit, they distributed over $7.7 million worth of non COVID-19 vaccine doses to community partners last year with 4.2 per cent of them having to be disposed of which came in at a cost waste of $151,999.10.
The main reason for the waste comes down to what is called “cold chain.” where issues occur during the cold storage of vaccines.
The number of waste is still an improvement from vaccine waste in previous years such as 2019 where $251,645.18 of vaccines went to waste.
